U10 Match Report

Hampton 5-A-Side Football Tournament

In sunny conditions, the annual Hampton Preparatory School Football tournament was held on Saturday 9th September. Westward took two teams; one from Year 6 and another from Year 5. Each side competed in a league format, with between eleven and thirteen matches per side. Mr Pettipher took charge of the Year 6 side whilst Mr Evans took charge of the Year 5 team.

Year 5 had a difficult start to the tournament, playing the two sides who eventually finished first and second, but did not do at all badly. As the matches progressed the team gelled together more effectively, finding a shape and a style of play which worked for them.

For most games Nishaan kept goal and did a super job saving many of the shots that came his way! Ruaridh proved a tenacious tackler and showed good positional awareness, whilst Nahar made a thorough nuisance of himself (to the opposition!) harrying and hassling and chasing the ball down. Kamran and Laurence tended to play in wider midfield roles, both making good passes and increasingly getting themselves in good positions to receive the ball and, when the opportunity arose, getting off good shots on goal. Luke played a solid role in defensive midfield and was often in the right place to help defend and frustrate opposition attacks whilst Connor played a more attacking midfield role unleashing several shots and freekicks from distance, whilst also harrying defences and making their lives tricky!

Player of the tournament was Connor.

A good time was had by all and valuable experience was garnered for next year’s tournament. Thank you to all the parents who supported the team so well!
