Westward u10 v Claremont Fancourt

On a sunny afternoon, Westward's Year 5 football team travelled to Claremont Fancourt for a seven a side match. Westward began well; Henry opening the scoring with a super early goal to put Claremont under pressure from the off. Westward extended their lead following a break away goal, again from Henry, and showed good signs through good passing and calling. Rocco and Katie both made their debuts and showed good tenacity and awareness in their tackling and positional play.

Claremont then pulled a goal back, before Henry completed his hat-trick, making the score three to one. As the second half progressed Claremont increasing their attacks and it needed good defending from Torin, Luke and Harry to block several efforts.

Unfortunately, Claremont did then break through and equalise with two quick goals and were fortunate to benefit from an own goal to then take the lead. Marcus, in goal for the second half (Dylan in the first half), made a fantastic save at  the end to deny Claremont another goal.

All the players should be proud of the way that they played and the manner in which they carried themselves; a credit to themselves and the school. We look forward to the next fixture!
