ISA East Triathlon

Twelve boys and girls travelled to Hutton Manor to take part in the annual East Triathlon. The going was tough after the rain, but both teams put in excelent performances - the girls managed to come second and the boys twelfth. Katie was pipped, by a whisker, into second place in the girls' event.

On Wednesday 2nd October, Early Years, Years 1, 2 and 3 were treated to a session in the Wonder Dome Planetarium. This gave the children a wonderful insight into Space, the planets and the Milky Way.

On Tuesday 24 September, Sarah Holding, the author of the SeaBEAN trilogy, visited the school. The Years 5 & 6 had a most instructive Creative Writing workshop with her. Some of the children bought her books and received a signed copy. A most productive morning.

Year 6 Posts of Responsibilty

Democracy at work. The Year 6's presented their talks to the school about the positions they want to hold this year. There were some excellent speeches (budding politicians). The school then exercised their rights by voting for the children they wanted to fill the posts of responibility. A really worthwhile lesson for everyone.

Year 6 World War 2 Workshop

Chertsey Museum visited the school recently to run a World War 2 workshop with the Year 6 class. The class were treated to a thoroughly informative and interesting workshop and they learned a lot about the war.

The Twits - Year 6 Play

The Year 6 class pulled out all the stops to thoroughly entertain the school and their parents with their rendition of The Twits. One child remarked that it was the best Year 6 play they had seen. Well done Year 6!

Mission Moon - Robotics

The Year 5 Robotics Club were tasked with designing a Moon Base as part of their Robotics Club. The boys put a tremendous amount of work into their projects and produced good work. They displayed the final results to the school and to their parents. They even had some pirates looking for treasure on the Moon.

ISA National Athletics

Four young ladies represented London South at the ISA National Athletics Championship recently. It was a long day, but that didn't deter the girls. They acquitted themselves well and should be proud of their achievements.

ISA Kwik Cricket

The u9 boys took part in the ISA Kwik Cricket at Beckenham Sports Club recently. They had a lot of fun and learned a lot about the game. A day well spent.

Year 6 Stalls

Year 1 & 2 Painshill Park Trip

The Stone Age

After the visit to the school by Chertsey Museum, the Year 2 class had a project on the Stone Age. They could do anything related to what they had learned. Ther ewere an array of weapons, jwellery and hoses. The class presented their projects to the school in assembly.

Year 5 & 6 PGL Trip

The Year 5 & 6 classes travelled to the Isle of Wight to go to PGL Little Canada recently. Despite getting sodden on the Friday, a good time was had by all. The children did lots of exciting activities as the photos show.

Miss Luksch Farewell

The Year 1 class had a special tea to bid farewell to Miss Luksch. The children really enjoyed the goodies they had to eat and a fun, but sad time was had by all who attended. Thank you to the parents who were able to attend. We wish Miss Luksch everything of the best in her new venture in Germany.

Rounders Tournament

The Year 5 & 6 children were meant to play rounders and cricket against Danesfield, but this was cancelled. Rather than let the opportunity to play go to waste a rounders tournamnet amongst themselves was organised. A fun afternoon was had by all, with England being unbeaten.

Year 2 - Chertsey Museum Visit

Tuesday 14 May saw Chertsey Museum visit the Year 2 class to talk to them about The Stone Age, Bronze and Iron Age. The class had a most enjoyable and productive session. Thank you Chertsey Museum.

Year 3 & 4 New Barn trip

Reeds Launch Car Challenge Final

On Thursday 2 May two young ladies from Year 5 represented Westward at the Reeds Launch Car Final. They did extremely well and came away with the title, the third time in four appearances for Westward. Well done Sara and Araya, you are a credit to Westward.

Year 4 Bikeability

On the second and third days of term the year 4's were hard at it, doing their Level 1 Bikeability training. By all accounts, they did really well and learned a lot about Road Safety and safety on their bicycles. A big thank you to the trainers for a job well done.

Easter Service

The Year 6 class was tasked with making volcanoes and getting the lava to flow. The telling day arrived, with much anticipation. The smell of vinegar permeated the air and we all waited with bated breath to see if the experiments would work. They did indeed work, making all the children's efforts worthwhile.

On Friday 22 March we had a netball and football teams tarvel to Grasshoppers Club to play sport against Ashton House. The teams met with mixed fortunes, but a lot of fun and learning was done in the process. Thank you to the staff who travelled and Brutons Coaches for getting us ther and back safely.

Year 4 Chertsey Museum - Tudor Day

The Year 4 class recently visited the Chertsey Museum to learn about the Tudors. The visited the monastary sacked during the reign of Henry VIII and had fun dressing up. All in all, a very productive day.

Year 1 entertained us with their alphabet poetry and songs, with a delightful piano recital from Oliver and we then journeyed back in time to the land of the Pharaohs with Year 2. On the Thursday before half term the Year 5 class went to Reeds School to take part in their annual Launch Car Challenge. The children had to see how far their cars, which they had designed and made, travelled. The team of Sara and Araya were the eventual winners and will represent Westward at the Inerschool Challenge.

Year 5 Printing

The Year 5 class joined the Year 6 on their trip to Gunnersbury Park Museum on Tuesday 5 February. While the Year 6's were learning about the strict regime in a Victorian classroom, the year 5's were learning about printing. The class had a really enjoyable and positive session with the staff from the museum and printed their own designs on the bag they were given.

The Years 6 class travelled to Gunnersbury Park Museum to experience what it was like to be in a Victorian classroom. The class reacted very well to the very stict discipline that was in force at the time. The children all learned a lot from this experience.

E-Safety

The school was visited by PERFORM on Monday 4 February to talk about e-safety. There were a series of workshops done with the Year 1- 6 children. The children learned a lot about the internet and their safety.

The Year 6 class had a very interesting and enjoyable trip to Wagamamas recently. They had fun tasting and preparing food and were given a lovely meal to end their trip.

Robotics

The long awaited Westward 500 took place in assembly on Monday and Wednesday. The Year 5 group built their racing cars, adapted them as tehy wished and had to get their cars to start either on voice command or using the motion sensor. Much fun and excitement was had by all. A fitting culmination to the term's robotics.

Christmas Service

St Andrew's Church was abuzz with excitement on Tuesday 11 December. The school's Christmas Service was about to take place. The Service was led by Year 5 and all the other classes contibuted to this thoroughly entertaining event. The choir sang beautifully as did the rest of the children. What lovely end to the Autumn term. Well done to everyone who made this such a tremendous occassion.

Year 5 & 6 sing at Adelaide House

The Year 5 and 6 classes walked to Adelaide House on Tuesday 4 December to entertain the residents. The children were warmly received and they sang their hearts out to thoroughly thrill the residents. They classes were tremendous ambassadors for the school.

Mr David Wood - author's visit

Mr David Wood, author and playwright, visited the school on Friday 23 November. David ran a really exciting assembly and then had workshops with the classes. The children were enthralled and hopefully this will have a positive and lasting effect on their creative writing. Thank you for a really worthwhile day.

ISA London South Gala

A small team of swimmers went to Beckenham Spa to compete in the ISA London South swimming gala on Sunday 11 November. All the swimmers acquitted themselves really well. The squad came away with 3 individual Gold medals and a relay Gold medal. Well done to everyone.

Year 6 - Chertsey Museum trip

The Year 6 class travelled to Chertsey Museum, all dressed like evacuees, to learn about the Second World War. They had a most productive day making gas masks, dressing up and generally learning about the hardships faced by all during the war.

Year 3 - The Greeks - Chertsey Museum

Chertsey Museum came to school on Monday 5 November to give the Year 3's and insight into the Greek civilization. The class enjoyed dressing up, handling the artefacts and hearing about the Greeks. All in all, a really great visit.

Friday 12 October saw last year Year 6 leavers visit the school for their reunion. It was really good to see the class and hear how they were getting on at their respective Senior schools. A great time was had by all.

The school hall was buzzing on Thursday 11 October as Year 4 were leading the Harvest Assembly. Reverend Hodgson spoke of gifts from God and the generosity of people. On Friday 5th October, twelve very excited triathletes went to Woodlands School in Hutton Manor for the ISA East Triathon. The school did really well all round, with Connor winning the boys and two girls, Katie S and Isabella coming in the top ten. Overall, the girls' team was placed fifth, with the boys' coming sixth.

Friday assembly was devoted to the Year 6 Posts of Responsibility. All the year 6 pupils made a presentation as to why they should be elected to the post that they were standing for. Following the speeches the children in Upper School used their democratic right to vote in the candidate of their choice. What a lovely way to see democracy at work.

Hampton 5-a-Side Football - Year 5

Year 5 enjoyed playing in the Hampton - 5 - a -Side Football tournament on Saturday 8 September.The competition was fierce, but the squad maitained good spirits and tried their best throughout, encouraging and motivating their team mates. Special mention should go to Dylan for outststanding goal keeping and good outfield play. Marcus also had spells in goal and did well.

The Year 6 football team enjoyed a productive day at the Hampton 5-a-side Footbaall Tournament on Saturday 8 August. The team started slowly, but gained momentum, with a four game unbeaten run. Nishaan, in goals and Henry , up front, both had a good tournament.

Yea 6 Play - The BFG

After a lot of work and preparation the big day for the performance of the BFG arrived - Wednesday 11 June. By all accounts the play was thoroughly entertaining and was enjoyed by the childen in the morning and the parents in the afternoon. An extract was performed at the Year 6 Speech Night much to the delight of the audience. Well done to all concerned.

The Year 6 childern had a really great day on Tuesday when they went to Flip Out in Basingstoke. Looking at the photos it looks quite an exciting place to be. The day was ended with a meal at Pizza Express.

QPR Visit

On Saturday 30 June the ISA football teams from 2017 and 2018 were lucky enough to have a tour around the QPR stadium - Loftus Road. The boys ten went on to Vandals Rugby Club where they palyed eachother and then they took on the Dads. The Dads vs Lads match ended in a very fair draw. A good day was had by all.

The Children's Trust - School's Recognition Day

Luke, Holly and Miss Luksch were invited to represent Westward School at the'Schools' Recognition Day, organised by The Children's Trust, to say "Thank You", for supporting them. The afternoon started with a presentation about the work of the Children's Trust, followed by a guided tour, a hands on workshop and finally a prize giving ceremony.

The Westward team tried exceedingly hard and had a measure of success. Four children will represent London South at the ISA Nationals in Birmingham on Tuesday 19 June.

Year 6 PGL

Just before the half term, the Year 6 class went to PGL Windmill Hill. Despite some rather wet weather, they had a really great time and experienced some exciting sessions. As you will see in the final photos it was a rather tiring trip and half term was much needed.

Wilhar spoke with knowledge and passion when asked about their work and were justifiably declared the winners. Well done boys!

On the Saturday after school broke up a combined Year 5 & 6 football team played in the Cougar Invitation Football Tournament at the Cobham International School. The boys played well and had a thoroughly enjoyable day out and came a creditable 5th.
