Westward u9 v Claremont Fancourt

On a beautiful late summer afternoon, Westward's Year 4 football team travelled to Esher to play Claremont Fan Court. Harry, as captain, won the toss and Westward kicked off the match.

Initially, Claremont put Westward under pressure, but William and Felix in defence and Sam in goal did well to blunt the attacks. When Westward got the ball, Edward, Oscar and Harry showed good dribbling skills and awareness of space to attack the Claremont goal and were unlucky not to make a break through. Just before half time, Claremont broke through and opened the scoring with a well taken goal but Westward were not downhearted and, after a good half time talk, put their best foot forward and got stuck into the second half with gusto!

Jasper, in goal for the second half, played very well and made a number of good saves from some fierce Claremont shots. Good chances were created by Edward, Oscar and Harry, and Westward were very unfortunate not to equalise with shots going just over the bar and past the posts.

At the end of the game, as Westward strove to equalise, committing many players forward, Claremont managed to increase their lead to two and that was how it finished. It should be said though, that the Westward acquitted themselves well and have plenty to build on for the future. Well done!
